What services does BarrierMetrics offer?

AIR BARRIER INSPECTIONS
Our air barrier inspection services are designed to verify that the building envelope is being
installed to meet energy code and performance standards throughout construction. We
offer a 3-phase inspection process based on construction milestones, tailored to identify
and resolve issues before they impact performance testing or project turnover.
• 5% Visit – Pre-sheathing Inspection
- Review of framing alignment, WRB compatibility prep, and early-stage flashing methods.
• 50% Visit – WRB In-Progress Inspection
- Inspection of installed membranes, transitions, and integration at openings and
penetrations.
• 95% Visit – Pre-Cladding Final Review
- Complete visual check of final WRB, sealants, and transitions before cladding is installed.

Each visit includes photographic documentation, ASTM-based inspection checklists, and
clear deficiency reports to help your crews correct issues before they become costly
failures.

BLOWER DOOR TESTING
Using calibrated Retrotec equipment and in accordance with ASTM E779 and E1827
standards, we perform whole-building airtightness tests to verify that your project meets
local energy code requirements such as the Washington State Energy Code (WSEC) or IECC
standards.
Our certified testers provide ACH50 readings, CFM/ft² calculations, and clear
documentation that can be submitted directly to code officials or commissioning agents. We
also include test setup photos, pressure and flow graphs, and annotated summaries in every
report.

INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY
Our Level II certified thermographers use FLIR and Fluke infrared cameras to identify
potential envelope weaknesses before or after blower door testing. Thermal imaging allows
us to detect hidden air leakage pathways, insulation voids, and thermal bridging that can
compromise energy efficiency and durability.
Infrared scans are offered as a stand-alone inspection or can be bundled with blower door
testing to create a complete diagnostic overview of your building’s airtightness and
envelope performance.

What is a building envelope?

A building envelope includes all components that separate the interior from the exterior, such as walls, roofs, windows, and doors.

Why is building envelope important?

The building envelope is crucial for maintaining indoor climate control, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing overall structural durability and performance.

How does BarrierMetrics support sustainable building practices?

BarrierMetrics plays a key role in promoting sustainable construction by helping reduce energy
waste, optimize building envelope performance, and support long-term building durability. Our
services align with the goals of high-performance building programs and modern energy efficiency
standards.

 Reducing Air Leakage
- Blower door testing and phased inspections eliminate uncontrolled air leakage.
- Improves HVAC efficiency, occupant comfort, and equipment longevity.

 Identifying Thermal Weaknesses
- Infrared thermography pinpoints insulation gaps and thermal bridges.
- Ensures insulation is installed correctly and avoids wasteful rework.

 Improving Building Envelope Durability
- Verifies correct air barrier and sealant installations.
- Prevents moisture intrusion and mold growth, supporting healthier indoor environments.

 Promoting Efficient Construction Practices
- Educates site teams on airtight construction methods.
- Reduces retests, change orders, and material waste, lowering environmental impact.
